WOODBLOCKS FOR "BRANCHING"




"BRANCHING" block drawing on 3/4" birch plywood, drawn directly to wood.

The drawing is hand-carved in low relief to create the key block for printing.



The key block image is then transferred on press to 3 additional color blocks.

The color from those blocks adds subtle tone & shape beneath the key detail.








MAKING "BRANCHING" COLOR BLOCKS




1st ink on "BRANCHING"; offset printing to create replica blocks for color.



Newsprint proofs from transfers spanning the press; "BRANCHING" is sizable!



3 color blocks were created, each transferred like a dream!



Each of the 3 transferred blocks is hand-drawn with color for carving

The linework from the yellow & blue blocks will layer with grey

to print a snaking pattern in natural tones that climbs the tree's bark.
